Milky Way over the fir forest, Alonistaina

Alonistaina sits at about 1,220 metres in the fir-covered Mainalo mountains, one of the highest villages in the Peloponnese. Here the Milky Way rises straight out of the treetops.
This is Kolokotronis country: the general's mother came from Alonistaina, and his family's home village of Limbovisi, now home to a small museum of Kolokotronis and the 1821 revolution, lies about 12 km away.
