Large Magellanic Cloud and a meteor over Hobart
Photograph by Dennis Verrios
From the summit of kunanyi / Mount Wellington, with the lights of Hobart spread out below, the Large Magellanic Cloud hangs at top left. It is a small galaxy orbiting our own Milky Way, visible only from southern skies.
The pink glow of the Carina Nebula sits in the band of the Milky Way across the middle of the frame, and a meteor streaked past the tower during the exposure.
